INTRODUCTION
Vista’s QSW-16\24 CCTV Ethernet switches support a single fibre uplink via the SFP 1Gbit/s standard. All that is required is the purchase and fitting of a pair of identical SFPs (one each end) according to your installed fibre and application – refer to the section VARIOUS SFP STANDARDS below.
Fibre provides advantages over copper 1Gbit/s but involves increased cost and specialist skills to “run”;
Where vastly increased distances are required – 550mtrs upwards towards 160km
Where certain installation sites and cable routing via copper would risk induced\inducing voltages etc
Where explosive environments demand it
VARIOUS SFP STANDARDS!
For the fibre aspect of an SFP there are many considerations and options that need to be considered before you chose and purchase – strongly suggest purchasing identical SFPs in matched pairs;
Multi-mode or single-mode – to match the fibre that has been installed\run-in!
Wavelength and distance supported\required – some examples;
SX – 850 nm, max 550mtr
LX – 1310 nm, max 10 km
EX – 1310 nm, max 40 km
ZX – 1550 nm, max 80 km
Single fibre core or duplex
Fibre Connection Type – normally LC duplex or single (LC duplex example below)
INSERTING SFP
Simply power down the QSW16\24 at each “end”, insert the SFPs and the fibre connections, then power up.
SFP Module – duplex LC fibre
SFP installed – note copper OR fibre, not both!
SUPPORTED SFP MODULES
The following have been tested;
Manufacturer | Model | Norbain Code | Fibre | Wavelength | Patch | Manufacturers distance |
D-link | DEM-311GT | 0610820 | 2-core multi-mode (62.5µm/50µm) | 850nm | Duplex LC | 220-550mtrs |
